Scope of work

Block of 20 homes on Bader Drive Mangere. These were a new typology called 2 over 1. Featuring a bedroom studio on the ground level, then a two storey, three bedroom built on the top (total 3-storey's).

Our Solution

MVM group were the only carpenters assigned to this project and worked alongside external engineers before and during project as well as multiple trades. As Project Manager Jazz Vakalahi liaised with the engineers and client representatives taking overall responsibility for the programme delivery. Site Manager Nela Maseke ,was onsite full-time managing the day-to-day building operations. Nela was instrumental in the ensuring safety of the site, conducting daily took box meetings to update the onsite teams on progress and the hazards associated with each stage.

A delay in framing supply threatened to delay the programme significantly and presented the team with a major challenge. Working with the client, Jazz and Nela presented a solution that involved building the frames in the traditional methodology on-site. Although the process took a little longer than pre-assembly, time was made up throughout the project.

Jazz's experience and knowledge helped to overcome some engineering defects in the design. For example the top concrete floor slab delivered by another contractor was found to be encroaching on the deck area by 800mm. Initially the client was going to remove the excess with manual equipment. With ten houses having the same defect this would have been a time consuming and disruptive process. Jazz worked with the project engineers to propose using a concrete cutter and crane to remove the slabs. After removal, MVM Group carpenters reformed the decking area with boxing and reinforced concrete. The MVM solution saved considerable time, cost and disruption. In addition MVM Group were able to quickly bring in extra resources to make up the lost programme time incurred during the defect correction.
